Building muscle doesn’t happen overnight. Typically it will take months to see a change in muscle growth for the reason that your body’s nervous system must trigger your muscles to gain enhancement. With constant doing, your build builds up the strength to continuously handle stress and weight which ultimately builds muscle for your body.

While many people believe that muscle is built while weights are being lifted up and down, they are actually incorrect. In fact, the process of muscle building actually occurs while the body is at rest, not while working. The human body is made up of thousands of little nerve and protein fibers that work together to allow muscles to contract. When your body is working by putting stress on it, these nerve cells are activated and work together to build upon the muscle.

However, in order to increase muscle mass, you must progressively increase the amount of weight you’re dealing with. The reason for this is because when nerve cells are activated by heavy weights and contractions, the muscle cells rush to build upon one another. When the weights are no longer a challenge to lift, the muscle cells lose their energy and ultimately stop building upon one another.

Feeling sore after a workout indicates that damage has been done to your muscles. Although it is typically frequent to hear of soreness after working out, you have to be careful to not overwork your muscles, which could ultimately lead to worse case scenarios. This is why it is recommended to lift weights every other day. This allows your muscles to rest (while the nerve and muscle cells work to build muscle). If you’re an advocate of working out every day, stretches and cardio are a great way to help your muscles relax from overworking and soreness on the days that you don’t lift.
